NOTES

Current Conditions, Species Updates, and Seasonal Outlook for Anglers

Umpqua River - Douglas, OR

River Conditions: The Umpqua River is in good shape with moderate flows and decent clarity. Conditions are favorable for both bank and boat anglers.

Spring Chinook Salmon: Fishing for spring Chinook is open in the mainstem and North Umpqua. However, retention of wild Chinook is prohibited—only hatchery fish may be kept. Catches have been low so far, with a few fish reported near Deadline Falls.

Steelhead: Winter steelhead fishing remains decent in the North Umpqua. Most fish are wild and must be released. South Umpqua is currently closed to all angling from May 1 through May 21.

Shad: Shad are starting to show up in the mainstem. Early morning and late evening are the most productive times. Small spoons and darts work well.

Trout: All tributaries and the main river remain closed to trout fishing until the season opens on May 22. Once open, only artificial flies and lures are allowed in some sections.

Access Notes: Most public access areas are open, but some trails near the North Umpqua may be impacted by past wildfires. Check ahead before heading out.

Weather Outlook: Cool and overcast with temperatures in the 50s. Dress in layers and be prepared for light rain.
